BNP to move EC with complaint of missing candidates

A delegation of BNP will visit Election Commission to file a complaint on the alleged kidnapping of the party’s two mayoral candidates.

Led by BNP joint secretary general AM Mahbubuddin Khokon, the delegation is scheduled to meet the Chief Election Commissioner Kazi Rakibuddin Ahmad around 4:30pm, Sayrul Kabir Khan, a staff of BNP chairperson’s media wing, told The Daily Star.

Talking to The Daily Star Online, Khokon, also the general secretary of Bangladesh Supreme Court Bar Association, said two of their mayoral aspirants -- form Madarganj municipality in Jamalpur and Chatkhil municipality in Noakhali – have been missing since Sunday.

“We assume law enforcers influenced by their rivals picked them up,” quoting family members Khokon said.

The BNP leader who was on his way to EC said they will seek election commissioner’s intervention into matter to identify the whereabouts of their missing candidates.
