The High Court today granted anticipatory bail to BNP leader Giasuddin Quader Chowdhury for three weeks in two separate criminal cases.

One of the cases was filed by Fatikchhari Upazila Awami League’s General Secretary Nazim Uddin Muhuri with a Chittagong court on May 31 on charge of threatening to kill the prime minister.

A Chittagong court the same day issued arrest warrant against Giasuddin, a BNP vice chairman and younger brother of executed war criminal Salahuddin Quader Chowdhury,  in this case.

Another case was filed by Md Jamaluddin, president of Fatikchhari Upazila Chhatra League, with Fatikchhari Police Station on May 30 on charge of vandalising vehicles and torturing Chhatra League men during an Iftar programme, Barrister Ruhul Quddus Kazal, the lawyer for Giasuddin, told The Daily Star.

Today, the HC bench of Justice Muhammad Abdul Hafiz and Justice Md Shohrowardi granted bail to Giasuddin after hearing two separate petitions filed by him seeking bail in the cases.

The HC also ordered Giasuddin to surrender before the trial courts concerned after three weeks in connection with the cases.

The accused BNP leader appeared before the HC bench for bail in the cases.

Barrister Ruhul Quddus also said his client will surrender to the trial courts concerned in connection with the cases after the expiry of his bail order.
