Blast in Mymensingh building leaves KUET student dead

A student of Khulna University of Engineering and Technology (KUET) was killed and three others suffered burn injuries as a newly connected gas line exploded in a building in Bhaluka upazila of Mymensingh early today.

The deceased Md Towhidul Islam, 24, from Bogra was a master’s student of textile and engineering department of the university.

The three injured students were identified as Md Shaheen Mia, hailing from Sirajganj; Md Hafizur Rahman from Naogaon; while Dipto Sarker from Magura.

On information, police rushed to the spot and rescued the victims, Md Raihanul Islam, additional police superintendent (Gafargaon Circle) in Mymensingh, told our local correspondent.

Quoting local people, the ASP said, all four, masters students of the Textile Engineering Department of KUET rented a flat on the third floor of six-storey AS Tower on Mar 10 for their internship at Square Fashion Ltd.

Police recovered Towhid’s body this morning and sent it to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital morgue for autopsy.

Shaheen along with critically injured Hafiz and Dipto were transferred to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) from MMCH for better treatment.

A six-member probe body was formed by additional district magistrate of Mymensingh to investigate the matter.
