Biman to run all-women flight on Women's Day

Believe it or not! There will be all-women crew flight tomorrow for the first time in Bangladesh.

They will be flying Boeing 737-800 around 195 kilometers from Dhaka to Sylhet.   

National carrier Biman Bangladesh Airlines will operate this special flight with two women pilots and six crew members marking the International Women's Day tomorrow.

Captain Tania Reza and First Officer Sarwat Siraj Antara will lead the BG-0603 flight having around 160 seats in it. The flight is scheduled to take off at 1.15pm from the domestic terminal.

Besides, security personnel and ground handling staffs to be deployed for the flight will also be women.

This special flight would be an inspiration for the country's women for this challenging job, First Officer Antara told journalists.

Civil Aviation and Tourism Minister Rashed Khan Menon said this proves women empowerment is advancing in Bangladesh.

“Women have proved themselves that they are not left behind in any sector,” he said terming the all-women crew flight good news for the country on this International Women’s Day.

“I congratulate all the pilots and crews of the flight and wish them very best of luck,” Minister Menon told The Daily Star.     

Earlier in last week, Air India said it has set a world record by flying around the world with an all-female crew that flew over the Pacific Ocean from New Delhi to San Francisco last Monday, and then flew back to New Delhi over the Atlantic on Friday.
