Biman brings 861 bodies of expats free of cost in 2016-17

National flag carrier Biman Bangladesh Airlines has brought back 861 bodies of expatriate workers, who passed away while working abroad, free of cost during 2016-17 fiscal year.

Among the 861 bodies, 27 were brought from Abu Dhabi while eight from Doha, 93 from Dammam, 59 from Dubai, 62 from Kuala Lumpur, 32 from Jeddah, 91 from Kuwait, 173 from Muscat, and 316 from Riyadh, said Shakil Meraj, general manager (PR) of Biman.

Biman has set a rare example of humanitarian service in bringing home the bodies of the deceased expatriate workers, said a press release of Biman today.

The release read that Biman could have earned Tk 8, 40, 87,000 if it charged for the service.

The expatriate workers go abroad to work and are making a significant contribution to the country’s development by sending their hard earned money as remittance. For different reasons, including accidents in the workplace, many workers lose their lives which is a matter of much grief, said Biman Managing Director and CEO AM Mosaddik Ahmed.

Biman brings back their bodies to Bangladesh at free of cost out of its social responsibility, he added.
