Bike ride to fulfil childhood dream

A victim of poverty, which stalled his studies in childhood, day labourer Md Zahidul Islam started countrywide bicycle tour from Amtali upazila town in Barguna on Tuesday to create awareness about education.

The 30-year-old hailing from Sonakhali village in the upazila plans to visit 64 districts in the country in a year.

Additional Deputy Commissioner Md Nuruzzaman inaugurated the bike tour around 11:00am while Additional Superintendent of Police Tofayel Ahmed and Upazila Nirbahi Officer Mushfiqur Rahman were present at the function.

'Poverty stopped my studies during childhood and I had to work in a brick kiln and roadside hotel and do other low paid jobs. But I always felt the importance of education,” said Zahidul, son of Eusuf Mridha.

“I want work to increase awareness so that all people will be motivated to get education to enlighten themselves, their family, society and the country as well,” he said.
