Bike hits car carrying Tureen Afroz in Gaibandha

It was an attack, Tureen says

A motorbike hit a car carrying Tureen Afroz, a prosecutor of the International Crimes Tribunal (ICT), in Palashbari upazila of Gaibandha today, police said.

The motorbike was coming from an alley to the main road carrying two people when it hit Tureen’s car suddenly. There was a police vehicle ahead of her car, said Mojibur Rahman, officer-in-charge (OC) of Palashbari Police Station.

Police detained the motorbike rider, Rana, a class-nine student. The other man managed to escape, the OC also said, adding that Tureen was unhurt although the car had a scratch on its body from the hit.

However, the prosecutor apprehended that it was an attack on her.

"It was an attack... but I am safe,” Tureen told The Daily Star over phone.

"As I reached Palashbari around 3:30pm, my car came under attack. I had no further knowledge of the incident," she said.

Tureen was returning from her village town in Nilphamari to Dhaka with police protection after completing the last rites programme of her father.

When asked about the claim of attack, OC Mojibur Rahman said, "I cannot say without investigation whether it was an attack. It might have been an accident either."
