Bhurungamari AC land exempted after apology

Bhurungamari’s Assistant Commissioner (land) Biroda Rani Ray has been exempted from charges over sentencing a lawyer “illegally” after she offered apology.

The High Court passed the exemption order today after Biroda appeared before the court yesterday, offering unconditional apology in answer to the legality of her sentencing.

She appeared before the High Court bench today and told the court that she repented the incident and also promised that she will never repeat such incident in future.

The bench of justice Md Habibul Gani and Justice KM Kamrul Kader accepted the apology and passed the exemption order. Also, the sentencing of the lawyer has been revoked.

The court said in its observation that the salary of such officials (like Biroda Rani) are paid from the tax of the general people. “But sometimes such officials try to misuse their power by dominating these people.”

It also said Biroda similarly abused her power by punishing a senior lawyer through the mobile court in Kurigram district’s Bhurungamari.

On December 17, the HC bench issued a suo moto (voluntary) rule and summoned the AC (land) to appear before it yesterday, after Supreme Court lawyers Syed Mohidul Kabir and Kazi Helal Uddin placed the news reports before the HC bench for necessary order.
