Bhurungamari AC offers apology, HC order tomorrow

Assistant commissioner (land) of Bhurungamari, Kurigram abused power by sentencing a lawyer through a mobile court over a trifling matter in Dinajpur, the High Court said today.

The High Court bench of Justice Md Habibul Gani and Justice M Kamrul Kader gave out the observation after the AC (land), Biroda Rani Roy, appeared before the court this morning and offered unconditional apology on a suomoto rule.

The HC bench will pass an order on the issue tomorrow.

Biroda appeared before the court today as per a summon order delivered by the court on December 17.

She, on December 13, fined advocate Nirod Bihari Roy, 60, a member of the Dinajpur Bar Association, Tk 500 and in default she sentenced him to one day jail over a feud regarding dealing a case at her office in Dinajpur’s Birganj.

The incident at the Upazila Land Office of Birganj has triggered widespread rage among the lawyers in Dinajpur. Later she was transferred to Bhurungamari.

She was stand-released on December 13 after punishing the senior lawyer through a mobile court over the matter a day before.
