BCL man dies under train during PM’s reception

A local leader of the ruling Awami League’s student front Bangladesh Chhatra League was crushed under the wheels of train in Khilkhet area of Dhaka this afternoon.

The deceased Ismail Hossain, 27, Narayanganj’s Rupganj, municipal-level leader of Kanchpur, Rafiqul Islam, a Jubo league leader of the same unit told The Daily Star.

The incident took place amid Awami League’s grand reception for Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. Thousands of activists stood on both sides of road to welcome the premier back home.

“We along with Hossain were standing beside the road to greet the prime minister,” Rafiqul said. “Before we could understand anything, we heard screams.”

They rushed Ismail to Dhaka Medical College Hospital where doctors declared him dead.

A Dhaka-bound Chitra Express from Khulna hit Ismail when he was talking on his mobile phone standing on the rail line around 5:45pm, Abdul Jalil, officer-in-charge of Dhaka Railway Police Station said.
