BCL man beats UP member

A Bangladesh Chhatra League leader allegedly beat a union parishad (UP) member as the latter did not add the picture of local MP on his poster in Tatulia Bazar area of Rajbari's Baliakandi upazila on Wednesday.

The accused is Jahidul Islam, president of Baharpur union unit of BCL, and also a member of the party in the district.

Locals said Baharpur UP member Murad printed some posters greeting local people on the occasion of Eid and Puja where he used the photos of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, Sheikh Hasina, Sajeeb Wazed Joy, Rejaul Karim, chairman of the UP, and his own picture.

Jahidul beat the UP member as he did not add the picture of Md Zillul Hakim, MP of Rajbari-2 constituency, they said.

Murad said, “Jahidul along with his men beat me when I came out from the union parishad office around 2:00pm.”

Jahidul said, “I did not beat him. I only wanted to know why he did not use the picture of our MP on his poster. But he did not give answer. Rather, he scolded us.”

Murad joined Awami League from BNP a few months ago, he said.

Baharpur UP Chairman Rezaul said Jahidul beat Murad as he did not add the picture of the MP on the poster.
