Bangladeshi shot dead by BSF

A Bangladeshi national was shot dead by Indian Border Security Force (BSF) along Burirhat border of Kaliganj upazila in Lalmonirhat early today.

Deceased Mahibur Rahman, 38, was son of Nazu Islam of Malgara village in Lohakuchi union of the upazila, our Lalmonirhat correspondent reports quoting Lt Col Ahmed Bajlur Rahman Hayati, commanding officer of BGB 15 battalion.

Mahibur along with six other Bangladeshis entered Indian territory through the border’s main pillar no. 915 to bring cattle, Lt Col Bajlur said.

Sensing their presence, a patrol team of BSF members opened fire towards them, he added.

Mahibur received bullet injury on his head, while others managed to flee. Mahibur died after his fellows returned to Bangladesh with him, BGB official Bajlur said.

BGB sent a protest letter to BSF in this regard, he added.
