Bangladesh, Myanmar agree to boost support on security: Minister

Bangladesh and Myanmar have agreed to boost cooperation on security between the two countries.

Both the countries agreed to sign two memorandums of understating (MoUs) on holding a dialogue on security, cooperation and construction of a border liaison office.

They also expressed importance of higher-level visits between the two countries, Foreign Minister AH Mahmood Ali told journalists at a press briefing at his foreign ministry office in Dhaka.

The foreign ministry organised the briefing following yesterday's meetings of Myanmar State Minister for Foreign Affairs U Kyaw Tin with Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and the foreign minister.

Bangladesh proposed the neighbouring country to form a committee to study the prospect of the Myanmar citizens and Rakhaine Muslims, who entered Bangladesh, becoming permanent residents in Myanmar, the foreign minister said.

The visiting Myanmar state minister assured that he will convey Bangladesh's proposal to the concerned ministries of his country.
