Bangladesh’s first nano-satellite Brac Onnesha launched into space

Brac Onnesha, the first nano-satellite made by a Bangladeshi university, was launched into the space from Kennedy Space Center in USA early today.

SpaceX's Falcon 9 rocket carrying the nano-satellite is going towards International Space Station (ISS), Md Mojammel Haque Shourobh, leader of the six-member team at the ground station of Bangladesh's Brac University, told The Daily Star Online.

It will be deployed in orbit soon, Md Mojammel said.

The rocket was launched from the space centre around 3:00am (Bangladesh Standard time), he said.

Earlier, SpaceX and Nasa fixed June 2 for launching the CRS-11 mission into the space. But it was postponed due to bad weather.

The ground station for Brac Onnesha at Brac University's Mohakhali branch was inaugurated on May 25 in a fully functional state.

Brac founder and its Chairperson Sir Fazle Hasan Abed formally inaugurated the ground station which is located at the rooftop of building No. 4, Brac University.
