The executive magistrates can run mobile courts till October 31 as the Supreme Court (SC) today again extended a stay order of the High Court that declared the on-the-move courts illegal.

A five-member bench of the Appellate Division headed by Acting Chief Justice Md Abdul Wahhab Miah passed the order following three separate petitions filed by the government.

The petitions were filed seeking extension of the apex court’s order passed on August 16.

Following the SC’s August 16 order, the executive magistrates could run the mobile courts till October 10 (today).

Earlier on May 11, the High Court declared unconstitutional the rule under which executive magistrates can run mobile courts.
