Anarchic situation prevailing in banking, education sectors: Menon

An extreme anarchic situation is prevailing in banking and education sectors at present defaming the government’s success in different areas, Social Welfare Minister Rashed Khan Menon told parliament today.

Menon, also president of the Workers Party, a component of the ruling Awami League-led 14-party grand alliance, said this while speaking in the thanksgiving motion on the president speech.

“Bangladesh is now a role model in development. But some unfortunate incidents like question paper leak and mismanage have turned into an epidemic in education and banking sector defaming the government success,” he said.

Menon said question paper leakage has created an adverse impact among the guardians about the government let alone the students.

Pointing to the anarchic situation in the banking sector, Menon said the number of loan defaulters is increasing gradually. The government has to give supply capital to state-owned banks, he added.

“Money has been laundering on regular basis and it is possible to prepare several national budgets with that money,” Menon said.

Menon said people hope that the government will investigate into the looting money from banks, money laundering and bring those to books involved in such criminal activities.

Pointing to Panama and Paradise papers, he said, "If Pakistan can investigate into those incidents, then why we cannot do that?"

“This is the year of the national election. The price hike of essentials, power and gas will put an impact on people. Incidents of murder, enforced disappearance, rape frightened people,” he also said adding,

People will turn around their face from the government if stern actions are not taken against those incidents, he said.
