20 Shibir men held in Ctg ‘for planning subversive activities’

Police detained 20 local leaders and activists of Islami Chhatra Shibir, a pro-Jamaat student front, in Teribazar area of Chittagong city this morning on charge of planning subversive activities.

Tipped off, a team of Kotwali Police Station launched a drive in the area around 10:30am and detained them when they were holding a secret meeting there, reports our Chittagong correspondent quoting the assistant commissioner (Kotwali zone) of Chittagong Metropolitan Police (CMP).

Police had received intelligence that the group of Shibir men gathered there to plan subversive activities on the Victory Day being observed today.

Sensing presence of the law enforcers, many of them managed to flee the scene, he said, adding that the detainees were taken to the police station for interrogation.
