To express hatred, dustbins have been set up and named it after Chhatra League man Badrul Alam, who brutally hacked Sylhet Government Women's College student Khadiza Begum Nargis on October 3.

“Use Me” and “Spit Here” were printed on each side of the dustbins where Badrul’s portrait was placed to condemn the gruesome attack on Khadiza, who is battling for life at Square Hospitals in Dhaka.

Bangladesh Manabadhikar Sangbadik Commission organised the condemnation programme in front of the Sylhet Central Shaheed Minar this afternoon following a rally demanding punishment of Badrul.

Addressing the rally, Khadiza’s father Mashuk Miah said, “I have no word to thank people from all religions as they are sharing tears with me for my only daughter Khadiza.”

“I am just waiting for my daughter to come back to me from the gate of the death,” he hoped.

General Secretaries Asad Uddin Ahmed of Sylhet city unit AL, Ali Ahmed of district unit BNP, and Sikondor Ali of district unit Workers’ Party, among others, addressed the rally.

They said that the brutal attack on Khadiza has brought back the unity among the countrymen. “Everyone is now demanding justice for her.”

They also said the movement of general people will be continued until the justice is achieved.

Badrul, senior assistant secretary of the BCL unit at Shahjalal University of Science and Technology (Sust) hacked Khadiza, 23, a student of Sylhet Government Women's College, indiscriminately with a machete on Monday.

A part of the attack was filmed presumably by a bystander with a mobile phone. The video clip went viral on social media.

In the clip, a youth is seen repeatedly hacking a girl lying on the ground. There were some bystanders, but no one seemed to have gone to her rescue.

However, some students along with locals caught and beat up the attacker -- Badrul. He was later handed over to police.

Critically injured, Khadiza was first treated at Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital. The next morning, she was shifted to the capital's Square Hospitals where she had a neurosurgery.
