The ruling Awami League nominated incumbent President Abdul Hamid as party’s presidential candidate tonight.

The AL Parliamentary Board took the decision at a meeting at Gono Bhaban with the party president Sheikh Hasina in the chair.

After the meeting, AL General Secretary Obaidul Quader informed the decision to journalists.

If any other parties, which have representation in the parliament, do not contest the presidential election, Hamid will be elected unopposed.

Hamid, who took office on April 24, 2013, will expire on April 23 this year. The presidential election will be held on February 18.
