Attempt to brand real freedom fighter as fake!

A freedom fighter of Nabinagar upazila under the district at a press conference at Brahmanbaria Press Club yesterday protested a school headmaster's alleged attempt to brand him as a fake freedom fighter. 

“Liakat Ali, headmaster of Kaitala Joggeshwar High School, issued a fake certificate, mentioning March 10, 1974, as my birth date, and claiming me as a former student of the school, although I was never a student of that school,” Abu Hanif said in his written statement at the press conference at 11:00am.

“As I was a witness in a previous case filed for illegal appointment of the said headmaster, he in collusion with a section of villagers conspired to brand me as a fake freedom fighter by holding a press conference on March 18,” he said.

At yesterday's press conference, which Hanif arranged in self defence, he produced copies of his National ID card, birth registration certificate, nikahnama (marriage document), which mentioned his date of birth October 9, 1956.

He also produced copies of his freedom fighter certificate No 156714 and Mukti Barta serial No 0212031355, mentioned in the official gazette No 4916.   

Hanif demanded exemplary punishment of the gang who are trying to brand him as a fake freedom fighter and tarnish his image.

“There are genuine documents proving that Hanif is a freedom fighter,” said Harun-ur-Rashid, former commander of the district unit of Muktijoddha Sangsad.

Contacted, headmaster Liakat Ali claimed that the certificate issued by him was true.

But he declined to reply when this correspondent told him about the national ID card, birth certificate and nikahnama of Abu Hanif, which mentioned October 9, 1956 as the latter's date of birth.
