Attacker of Rajshahi cops a JMB militant: Police

A Rajshahi youth, who stabbed two policemen at Godagari upazila of Rajshahi last night, is a member of the banned militant outfit Jama’atul Mujaheedin Bangladesh (JMB) and trained in Martial Arts, police said today.

Ajimul Islam, 24, who was arrested by a team of detective branch of police in Bogra last night, was known for his religious extremism at Bujruk Rajarampur village in the upazila, said the villagers.

“No doubt, he is a member of JMB”, said Khurshid Alam, deputy inspector general (DIG) of Rajshahi range.

He stabbed two policemen at Kella Baroipara village and tried to flee, but the policemen managed to arrest him, the DIG told our Rajshahi correspondent.

The two injured police constables -- Abdus Salam, 53, and Ismail Hossain, 33 -- are undergoing treatment at Rajshahi Medical College Hospital (RMCH), he added.
