Attack on Hindus: 2 Nasirnagar AL leaders remanded

A local court today remanded two Awami League leaders over the synchronised attack on Hindu community people in Nasirnagar upazila of Brahmanbaria.

Suruj Ali, allegedly the key instigator and recently suspended from the president post of Chapartola Union Awami League, was handed two-day remand. He was arrested yesterday.

Brahmanbaria Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate Md Shafiqul Islam passed the order when police produced Suruj with a seven-day remand prayer, a local correspondent reports quoting court Inspector Md Mahabubur Rahman.

Sheikh Abdul Ahad, ex-Union Parishad Chairman of Nasirnagar and joint secretary of upazila unit Awami League, was placed in a fresh two-day remand by the same judge.

On October 30 last year, zealots attacked the minority Hindu community in Nasirnagar, ransacking temples and looting houses. Later, several other attacks followed leaving the community in terror.

At least eight cases were filed in connection with the attack incident. Police detained 107 people so far over the attack.
