Anti-militancy drive continues in 4 northern districts

Law enforcers have started a drive against militancy and terrorism in the remote char areas of four districts for the third consecutive day today.

Officer-in-charge of Gaibandha Police Station Mehedi Hasan said the block raid conducted by members of district police, Detective Branch (DB) of police and a team of Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime (CTTC) unit, began around 6:00am in Gaibandha, Jamalpur, Bogra and Kurigram districts.

The joint forces launched the drive on Tuesday night and they raided different chars of the Teesta, Jamuna and Brahmaputra rivers in Fulchhari, Sadar, Sundarganj and Saghata upazilas of Gaibandha, Islampur upazila of Jamalpur district, Sariakandi upazila of Bogra district and Chilmari upazila of Kurigram.

On Tuesday night, the law enforcers arrested two people---Abdul Awal, from Char Projapoti of Islampur while a suspected robber from a char of Fulchhari upazila of Gaibandha district on Wednesday. Later, the law enforcers suspended their drive in the afternoon.

Mashrukur Rahman Khalek, superintendent of Gaibandha police, said the drive was a part of regular anti-militancy drive.
