Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina today said the assassination of Bangabandhu on August 15 in 1975 was carried out by those who did not want the country’s independence and victory.

“The local and international level conspirators who did not want the country’s independence and victory killed Bangabandhu and his family members on August 15,” Hasina said.

The prime minister was addressing a discussion marking the August 15, the National Mourning Day at Agriculturalist Institute of Bangladesh in Dhaka this afternoon.

About BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia’s decision not to celebrate her birthday this year, Hasina said it was not her political greatness.

“Some people are trying to describe her (Khaleda) decision as political greatness. But it will be a mistake if the decision is treated as her greatness,” she said.

The PM also said August 12 was the birthday of her younger son Arafat Rahman Koko but it was not celebrated.

“Now on which ground a mother can celebrate her own birthday,” the PM inquired.
