Another AL man dies

An activist of the ruling Awami League, who was injured during a clash between two factions of the party in Kushtia Sadar upazila on September 7, died early yesterday.

The deceased, Shahanur Islam, 30, was son of Marfat Mondol of Bakhail village in the upazila.

Shahanur's death took the tally to three as two others were killed during the clash on September 7.

“Shahanur received severe stab injuries in his forehead and abdomen,” Officer-in-Charge Ratan Sheikh of Islamic University (IU) Police Station said, adding that he died at Kushtia General Hospital while undergoing treatment there around 4:30am.

On September 7, supporters of Jhoudia Union Parishad (UP) Chairman Keramat Ali and Bokhtiar Hossain, former chairman of the UP, got locked in a clash at Jhoudia Bazar over lease of a local water body and a cattle market.

At one stage, both the groups, equipped with firearms and sharp weapons, attacked each other that left Nazrul Islam, 39, and Billal Hossain, 32, of the village dead and 25 others injured.
