The doctor, who performed the autopsy on the body of Mirpur private polytechnic student Afsana Ferdaus, primarily suspected that the victim committed suicide.

“Primarily we think it’s a case of suicide. But the cause of the death will be conformed after getting the complete report,” AKM Saifuzzaman, assistant professor of Forensic Medicine Department of Dhaka Medical College and Hospital, said today.

When asked whether the victim was raped prior to her death, the doctor said it will be known after getting viscera and High Vaginal Swab (HVS) test reports.

Two unidentified youths dumped Afsana, an architecture student from Mirpur’s Saik Institute of Management and Technology, at a local hospital in an unconscious state on the night of August 13. Police later received her body.

Police initially recorded it as an unnatural death case.

The family of Afsana, who was an activist of Chhatra Union, alleged she was murdered by someone in her circle. They particularly named a leader of Chhatra League's Tejgaon College unit in the capital.

Meanwhile, Dhaka University teachers and students under the platform of ‘Mass Movement against Murder-Rape-Militancy,’ formed a human chain and held a rally at Shahbagh this afternoon demanding immediate arrest of those involved in the killing.

Bangladesh Chhatra Union president Lucky Akhter, several activists of Gonojagoron Mancha, among other, also spoke at the human chain to realize the demand.
