Accused stabbed dead in front of judge inside courtroom in Cumilla

An accused has been stabbed to death by another suspect of a murder case in front of a judge inside a courtroom in Cumilla today.

The deceased is Faruk, 26, son of Ohidullah of Laksham, report our Cumilla correspondent.

The incident took place around 12noon when Hasan, 26, son of Shahidullah of Manoharganj, stabbed Faruk during a hearing on the murder case at the Cumilla Additional District and Sessions Judge’s court, said Md Salauddin, inspector (investigation) of Cumilla Kotwali Police Station.

Faruk and Hasan are cousins and both are accused in the murder case, the police official said.

They went to the court to appear before it in connection with the case, he further said.

“At one stage of hearing, Hasan started chasing Faruk at the courtroom and stabbed him in front of Judge Fatema Ferdous as the victim tried to hide under a table inside the judge’s chamber,” said Public Prosecutor Liakat Ali.

Police arrested Hasan soon after the incident, Inspector Salauddin said adding that police suspect Hasan carried the knife with him when he came to the court to appear before it.

The body of the victim is in police custody, the official added.
