ACC sues two for using bamboo in Gaibandha school construction

The Anti-corruption Commission (ACC) today lodged a case against an engineer of Department of Public Health Engineering (DPHE) and a contractor for using bamboo sticks in construction work of a school’s toilet in Gaibandha.

Md Zakaria, assistant director of ACC Rangpur zone, filed the case against contractor Abdul Khaleque and engineer Arif Billah Dakua with Gaibandha Sadar Police Station, said AKM Mehdi Hasan, officer-in-charge (OC) of the police station.

On Wednesday, police detained them, our district correspondent reports quoting the OC.

The ACC found evidence of using bamboo sticks instead of iron rod, the police official said.

However, the PHED suspended engineer Arif today as per order of the chief engineer.

Meanwhile, local contractors of Gaibandha held a press conference at the district’s press club demanding unconditional release of the contractor and engineer.

They termed the incident as conspiracy following a feud between two rival groups over the constriction works at Meghdomor primary school.
