'Abducted' man killed in 'gunfight'

A man, who was allegedly abducted on Friday, was killed in a 'gunfight' with police in Jessore early yesterday. 

The deceased is farmer Faruk Hossain, 42, son of Abu Bakar of Daulatdihi village under Kotwali Police Station, said family sources.

Ilias Hossain, officer in-charge, said an unidentified 'robber' died at Khulna Medical College Hospital after he was shot in a 'gunfight' between his cohorts and the law enforcers.

The incident took place when a gang was committing robbery at Kanaitala on Rajarhat-Chuknagar road around 2:30am, the OC said, adding that Faruk was killed in firing by the robbers.

Taslima Begum, wife of the deceased, said four men on two motorbikes identifying themselves as policemen abducted her husband around 11:00am on Friday.
