29 lakh yaba tablets seized in Ctg, Teknaf

A total of 29 lakh 80 thousand pieces of yaba tablets were recovered today in separate drives at Anwara of Chittagong and Teknaf of Cox’s Bazar.

In Chittagong, Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) members seized 20 lakh pieces of the contraband tablets from a trawler from deep sea in Gohira area of Anwara around 5 :00am, Commanding Officer of Rab-7 Lt Col Miftah Uddin Ahmed told The Daily Star.

Nine people, including the kingping of a yaba smugging syndicate Mozahed, were detained in this connection, the Rab official said. The trawler was also seized.

Meanwhile, Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) officials seized 9 lakh 80 thousand pieces of yaba tablets in Teknaf upazila of Cox’s Bazar.

Acting a tip-off, BGB members conducted a raid in Hariakhali area of Sabrang union around 4 :45am, said Lt Col Abujar Al Jahid, commanding officer of BGB Battalion 2 in Teknaf.

Sensing presence of the BGB men, the smugglers left sacks containing the yaba tablets on the sea shore and fled with their boats, our Cox’s Bazar correspondent reports quoting the BGB official.

The recovered yaba tablets are worth around Tk 29.40 crore, he added.

Earlier yesterday, Coast Guard members recovered 2 lakh 70 thousand yaba tablets from Teknaf and detained six Myanmar nationals in this connection.
