The High Court today cleared the way for a lower court to run the trial proceedings of sacked Rapid Action Battalion official Lt Col (retd) Tareeque Sayeed Mohammad in a Narayanganj seven-murder case.

The HC bench of Justice M Enayetur Rahim and Justice Amir Hossai passed the order rejecting a petition filed by the sacked Rab official for scrapping the trial against him in the case.

The bench rejected the plea considering that the petition was not moved properly. The case was filed by Selina Hossain Beauty, widow of Narayanganj panel mayor Nazrul Islam, who is one of the victims killed after abduction in 2014.

Earlier on March 15, the same bench rejected another petition of Tareque seeking cancellation of another case filed by Bijoy Kumar Paul, a supporter of senior lawyer Chandan Sarker, who was also another seven-murder victim.

Earlier on March 7, a judge of another HC bench felt embarrassed to hear the petition of Tareque Sayeed.

Narayanganj panel mayor Nazrul Islam and his four associates, and senior lawyer Chandan Sarker and his driver were abducted from a Narayanganj road on April 27, 2014 and their bodies were later found floating in the Shitalakkhya river.
