8 dead in Cox’s Bazar after rain

At least eight people including two children were killed after torrential rainfall and landslides in different areas of Cox’s Bazar today.

Three were killed in a landslide triggered by rain in Ramu upazila, our local correspondent reports quoting police. They have been identified as Amir Hossain, 40, Md Ridwan, 10, and Md Junu Miah, 60.

One Khotiza Begum, 38, died after drowning in flood water caused by heavy rainfall, and Halima Begum, 27, died after suffering a cardiac arrest in Ramu upazila. 

A three-and-half-year-old boy Jisan and his mother Anwara Begum, 27, were killed after a coconut tree fell on them in St Martin’s Island, said TSI Harun-Ur Rashid, in-charge of the island’s police camp.

Meanwhile, a three-year-old boy Afsar died in a landslide at Gonapara area of Cox’s Bazar town around 2:00am. His body was kept at Cox’s Bazar Sadar Hospital.
