A Sherpur court yesterday sentenced a man to two years' imprisonment in a case filed by his wife for demanding dowry.
The convict is Rezaul Karim, 26, son of Ebadul Hossain of Ganapaddi village in Nakla upazila.
According to the case statement, Rezaul married Shikha Akhter, daughter of Amir Hossain of Chawkpathak area in Sadar upazila, in January 2013.
After the marriage, Rezaul often tortured Shikha for dowry. On January 2, 2014, Rezaul tortured Shikha as she refused to bring Tk 50,000 from her parents. She later filed a case against her husband. 
Senior Judicial Magistrate ANM Ilias delivered the verdict.
