638 sued in Faridpur

Two cases have been filed with Sadarpur Police Station against 638 people in connection with the clash that left one killed and 50 others injured on Monday.

Police arrested 29 people.

“Sadarpur Police Station Sub-inspector Abul Kalam Azad filed a case against 73 identified and 500 unidentified people on charge of obstructing government work and attacking police while Borhan Sikder, brother of deceased Manan Sikder, filed another case against 45 identified and 10 unidentified people with the same police station,” said Harun-ar-Rashid, officer-in-charge of the police station.

The traders of Krisnapur Bazar yesterday handed over a memorandum to the deputy commissioner of Faridpur, seeking measures for their safety.

“The attackers vandalised around 500 shops and looted goods from 200 shops of the bazar. So we went to the DC and handed over a memorandum to take step against the attackers,” said Md Botu Mia, general secretary of Krisnapur Bazar Committee.   

A man was killed and 50 others, including eight policemen, were injured during a fierce clash between two groups of villagers over establishing supremacy in Krishnapur Bazar area under Sadarpur upazila of Faridpur around 6:00am on Monday. Police fired 137 rounds of bullet and 17 teargas shells to bring the situation under control.
