A 60-kilometre tailback was created on the Dhaka-Tangail highway due to a heavy rush of vehicles since last night.

Thousands of passengers were suffering immensely on the highway since last night as vehicles are moving slowly.

Several hundred vehicles were at a stand-still last night at several points on the highway, including Korotia of Tangail, reports our Tangail correspondent quoting passengers.

Vehicles were moving slowly for nearly 60 kilometres stretching from Chandra of Gazipur to Elenga of Tangail, Khalilur Rahman Patwari, officer-in-charge (OC) of Gorai Highway Police Station, told The Daily Star today.

Vehicular movement is very slow from Mizrapur to Elenga intersection of Tangail, added the OC.

Sukanta, a passenger, who started his journey after spending his Eid holidays in Bogra around 8:30pm at last night, said he has reached Zirani of Savar on his way to Dhaka after a 14-hour long suffering.

He said hundreds of vehicles were stuck for 11 hours from Korotia of Tangail to Chandra of Gazipur.

The vehicles were stuck for six hours in Mirzapur of Tangail alone, he added.
