'50 raped in Thakurgaon in ten months'

Violence against women and children continues to rise in the district due to lack of speedy trial and punishment, said women rights leaders at a press conference here yesterday.                     

Over 200 women and children in the district became victims of violence in last ten months, of them 50 were raped.

As many as 1,455 cases are under trial with Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal in the district, speakers said at the conference marking 'International Women Repression Prevention Fortnight and International Human Rights Day' at the office of Bangladesh Mahila Parishad. 

Its district unit General Secretary Suchorita Dev read out a written statement at the programme presided over by acting President Airin Pervin Luna.
