5 Rohingyas held over Cox’s Bazar Ansar camp attack

Members of Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) arrested five Rohingyas from a hill in Ukhiya upazila early today for their alleged involvement in the killing of an Ansar member inside a Rohingya refugee camp in Teknaf upazila.

The arrestees were identified as Rafique alias Mamun Miah, 30, Abdur Razzak, 28, his brother Abdus Salam, 30, Joynal alias Jane Alam, 50, and Harun, 30.

They hail from Nayapara Rohingya Shibir of Teknaf upazila and are the members of Rohingya Solidarity Organisation (RSO).

Rab commanding officer Lt Col Miftah Uddin Ahmed Briefing at a press conference at Rab-7 battalion headquarters said tipped off, a team of Rab-7 launched a drive at Kutupalang Rohingya Shibir in Ukhiya upazila around 2:30am and arrested the five Rohingyas.

The arrestees confessed to their involvement in the attack, he said.

On May 13, Ansar member Ali Hossain, 55, was shot dead and 11 firearms were looted during the attack inside the Rohingya refugee camp in Teknaf upazila.

Alamgir Hossain, an Ansar member of the barrack inside the Rohingya camp, filed a case against 35 unidentified people with Teknaf police station.
