10 killed in road accidents in 4 dists
At least 10 people were killed and 59 others injured in separate road accidents in four districts today.
Of them, five people were killed in Khulna while two each were killed in Bhola and Kishoraghanj and one in Khagrachhari.
In Khulna, a passenger bus plunged into a roadside ditch in Dumuria upazila at noon, killing the five people and injuring about 23 others.
Four of the deceased were identified as Razzak Gazi, 40, Shariful Islam, 35, Abu Taleb Gazi, 50, and Mostafa Gazi, 50. They were residents of different villages in Koyra upazila, our Khulna correspondent reports quoting police.
The Khulna-bound 'Moumita Paribahan' veered off the road and fell into the pit in Boratia area around 12:30pm, said Habil Hosen, officer-in-charge (OC) of Dumuria Police Station.
The injured were taken to Khulna Medical College Hospital and Dumuria Upazila Health Complex.
In Bhola, a man and a teenage boy were killed and six people were injured as a battery-run human hauler (locally named as Borak) collided with a goods-laden trolley in Helipad area of Charfassion upazila this morning, reports UNB.
The deceased were identified as Md Mansur Talukder, 45, son of Rahim Sikder, a resident of ward no 9 in Osmanganj union, and Siam, 12, son of Md Masud, a resident of Aslampur union.
Md Enamul Haque, officer-in-charge of Charfassion Police Station, said the battery-run human hauler collided with the goods-laden trolley in the morning, leaving Mansur dead on the spot and seven other people critically injured.
Among the injured, Siam died on the way to hospital.
In Kishoreganj, two people were killed and 30 others injured in Pakundia and Karimganj upazilas in the morning, UNB adds.
A Kishereganj-bound bus collided with a pick-up van in Pakundia upazila, killing a woman, Jarina Begum, on the spot and injuring 19 other people. The injured were admitted to Sadar hospital.
Besides, a Dhaka-bound bus plunged into a pond in Karimganj upazila, killing Helal Mia on the spot ant injuring 11 others.
The injured were admitted to Karimganj Upazila Hospital.
In Khagrachhari, an NGO worker, Sugata Chakma, 42, was killed as a microbus hit his motorcycle at Lemuchhari in Sadar upazila, UNB said.
