5 Jubo League men killed in Meherpur road crash

At least five activists of Jubo League, pro-youth front of the ruling Awami League, were killed and several others injured when a bus rammed a three-wheeler at Mujibnagar upazila in Meherpur this evening.

The deceased Tuku Sheikh, 26, Tufan Khan, 27, Nazrul Islam, 32, Anis Ali, 22, and Ghilon Ali, 32, were activists of local unit of Jubo League, Touhidul Islam Pereshan, joint general secretary of the upazila unit Jubo League, told our Kushtia correspondent.

The Jubo League men were returning home after attending a function in Meherpur town on the occasion of the National Children's Day, Pereshan said.

A Pabna-bound bus from Mujibnagar rammed the locally made thee-wheeler carrying the Jubo League men on Meherpur-Mujibnagar road in Chokshaymnagar area around 7:30pm, leaving three passengers of the three-wheeler dead on the spot and several others injured, said Seikh Mustafizur Rahman, assistant superintendent of police in Meherpur.

Of the injured, one met the tragic end of life on the way to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital while another on the way to Meherpur General Hospital, the police official said.

The angry locals set fire on the bus after the accident.

The injured Rasedul Islam, Meser Ali, Monirul Islam and Hasibul were taken to Meherpur General Hospital. Later, they shifted to the RMCH as their condition deteriorated, the ASP added.
