5 jailed in murder case

A court here on Monday sentenced two men to life term imprisonment and three others to seven and five years in jail for killing a madrasa teacher over a decade ago.

The convicts are Wazed Mollah, 45, his wife Joinab Begum, 40, and their sons -- Ershadullah Mollah, 32, Obaidullah Mollah, 28, and Habibullah Mollah, 25.

Lifers Wazed Mollah and Ershadullah Mollah were also fined Tk one lakh each.

Obaidullah Mollah and Habibullah Mollah were jailed for seven years while Jainab Begum was awarded five years' imprisonment. Jainab was also fined Tk 5,000.

After examining evidence and witnesses, District and Sessions Judge Abul Kashem Mostafa found the five guilty and delivered the verdict.

According to the prosecution, Maulana Abdul Mannan, teacher of Khepupara Nesaruddin Fazil Madrasa, was beaten to death over a disputed land on February 28 in 2005.
