48 BNP-Jamaat men among 108 arrested

At least 108 people, including 48 BNP-Jamaat men, were held during special drives by law enforcers in Jhenidah, Chapainawabganj and Satkhira districts yesterday and the day before.

A team of joint force in separate drives arrested at least 44 activists of BNP and Jamaat-e-Islami in six upazilas of Jhenidah in the last two days.

Of them, 12 are from Sadar upazila, 10 from Moheshpur, ten from Shailakupa, eight from Kaliganj, two from Harinakundo and two from Kotchandpur upazila.

They were arrested on charge of planning subversive activities in the areas, said Assistant Superintendent of Police Ajbahar Ali Sheikh.

In Chapainawabganj, at least 30 people, including a Jamaat man, were held in four upazilas of the district yesterday and the day before, reports our correspondent.

The arrestees include Aslam Ali, 20, of Shahbajpur village in Shibganj upazila.

Away in Satkhira, a joint force arrested 34 people, including three Jamaat activists, in eight upazilas of the district yesterday and the day before, reports UNB.

The Jamaat men were arrested on sabotage charges, said police.
