6 killed in Cox’s Bazar road crashes

Six people were killed and five injured in two separate road accidents in Cox’s Bazar this morning.

A microbus carrying tourists plunged into a road side ditch around 9:15am in Chokoria upazila on Chittagong-Cox’s Bazar highway, killing four people on the spot and injuring five others, reports our correspondent.

The deceased are Kulsum Aktar Sumi, 27, her sister Ayesha Aktar Shilpi, 25, of Comilla, microbus driver Amir Hossein, 35 and Golam Kibria, 33.

The five injured were rushed to different hospitals of Chokoria, said Abul Hasen, a sub-inspector of Baniachhora Highway police outpost.

The group of 12 tourists started for Cox’s Bazar from Basabo of Dhaka last night, the SI added.

Two people were killed in another accident in Ramu upazila on the same highway around 5:00am, our correspondent reports.

Md Tayab Mia, 28, and Mizanur Rahman, 25, died when the driver lost control over the steering of his pick up van carrying fruits due to dense fog and hit a tree, said Abul Kalam Azad, OC of Ramu highway police.

The driver went into hiding soon after the accident, the OC added.
