4 held with pistols, bullets in C'nawabganj

Law enforcers in separate drives arrested four people, including three staffs of a Dhaka-bound passenger bus, and seized five pistols, 10 magazines and 34 bullets from their possession in Shibganj upazila yesterday and on Sunday night.

The arrestees are Mohammad Joni, 28, driver of RP Paribahan, also a resident of Chapainawabganj town, helper Rubel Hossain, 22, of Shibganj upazila, supervisor Shamim Hossain, 28, of Doulatpur upazila in Kushtia, and one Kamal Hossain, 28, of Raghunathpur village in Shibganj upazila.

Officer-in-Charge Moinul Islam of Shibganj Police Station said, a police team, acting on tip-off, intercepted a Dhaka-bound passenger coach from Kansat at Shibganj Bazar around 10:30pm on Sunday.

Police searched the vehicle and found three pistols, six magazines and 20 bullets under driver's seat.

They later arrested Joni, Rubel and Shamim and seized the bus, the OC added.

The law enforcers, in another drive yesterday, detained an alleged arms peddler along with two pistols, four magazines and 14 bullets in Kathalpar village in the upazila.

ASP Alok Biswas, commander of Rab-5 in Shibganj, said the elite force member raided the village around 12:45pm and arrested Kamal and seized the pistol, magazines and bullets from his possession.
