4 held over Brahmanbaria violence

Four people, including a Jubo Dal leader, have so far been arrested in connection with violence over the death of a madrasa student in a clash of Brahmanbaria a week ago.

The arrestees are: Shahadat Hossain, organising secretary of Sadar upazila Jubo Dal unit, Chhoton, Rabbi and Shahjalal.

Shahadat was arrested last night while the rest three arrested on Saturday night, said Mainur Rahman, officer-in-charge of Sadar Police Station.

Earlier on January 12, madrasa students went on a rampage through the district town, protesting the death of Masudur Rahman, a student of Jamia Islamia Yunusia Madrasa, who was injured in the clash on the day before.

They also vandalised 12 establishments, set fire on two establishments and blocked the rail track during their daylong violent demonstrations.

At least 30 people, including Masudur, were injured in the clash among the madrasah students, local traders and activists of Bangladesh Chhatra League over a trifling matter at Zilla Parishad Market in TT Road area on January 11.

12 cases were filed over the violence.
