4 arrested with arms, books on jihad in Hili

Members of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) arrested four people with firearms, bullets, magazines, books on jihad and Rs 1 lakh in Hili area under Hakimpur upazila of the district on Saturday.

The arrestees are Babul Hossain, 43, son of Abdul Kader of Fakirpara village, Lokman Hossain Belal, 55, son of late Rafique Uddin of Madyabasudevpur, owner of residential hotel Northern Palace and its manager Shahbul Islam, 23, son of Abdur Rahman of Boigram in Hakimpur upazila and Md Jahid, 32, son of Shahid Ali of Islampara under Shahjadpur upazila of Sirajganj district.

Lt Col Khabir Sarker, commanding officer of BGB-3 Battalion, said they first arrested Babul Hossain with a pistol at Charmatha in Hakimpur Bazar area in the afternoon. 

Following the arrestee's confessional statement, the BGB men seized two pistols, three bullets, three magazines, 20 jihadi books and a book on bomb making written in Urdu from a room of the hotel.

The border guards also seized Rs1 lakh from the room.

They also arrested Lokman Hossain Belal, owner of the hotel, its manager Shahbul Islam and Md Jahid in connection with the incident.

They started interrogation to know whether they have any link with any militant group, said the BGB officials.
