33 BNP-Jamaat men among 130 arrested in 3 districts

At least 130 people, including 33 BNP and Jamaat-Shibir men, were held during special drives by law enforcers in Tangail, Satkhira and Pabna districts yesterday and the day before.

Police in a drive arrested 14 activists of Islami Chhatra Shibir from a mess in Tangail town on Sunday, reports our correspondent.

They also seized a number of jihadi books from their possession.

The arrestees include Mizanur Rahman Munna, 19, of Pabna, Selim Reza, 19, of Naogaon, and Redwan Miah, 19, Shamim Miah Mobarak, 19, of Manikganj; and Shah Poran Sagor, 19, of Mymensingh; and Abdur Razzak, 19, of Dinajpur, Al Amin, 19, of Jamalpur; and Faisal Ahmed, 19, of  Tangail.

The Shibir men were later produced before a court which sent them to jail, said police.

In Satkhira, a team of joint force arrested 25 people, including five activists of BNP and Jamaat-e-Islami, in seven upazilas of the district in the last two days, reports UNB.

Sub-Inspector Enamul Haque of the Special Branch of police, said the BNP-Jamaat men were arrested on sabotage charges.

Among the arrestees, 12 are from Sadar, four from Kalaroa, one from Debhata, two from Kaliganj, one from Ashashuni, two from Kaliganj and one from Patkelghata upazila.

Meanwhile, the law enforcers arrested 91 people, including 11 activists of BNP and three activists of Jamaat, in eight upazilas of Pabna district yesterday and the day before.

The BNP-Jamaat men were arrested on sabotage charges, said Additional Superintend of Police Siddiqur Rahman.
