3 SSC, Dakhil examinees ‘commit suicide’ in Pirojpur, Magura

Three students reportedly committed suicide in Magura and Pirojpur districts yesterday after being failed to pass this year’s Secondary School Certificate (SSC) and equivalent examinations.

In Pirojpur, a Dakhil examinee Pori Akter, 17, daughter of Mahbubur Rahman Khan of Kawkhali upazila, took her life by hanging herself from a ceiling fan in the house around 5:30pm yesterday.

She was whisked off to the upazila health complex where she was declared dead, said Md Moniruzzaman, officer-in-charge of Kawkhali Police Station.

Pori was a student of Parsaturia Salekiya Dakhil Madrasha in Kawkhali.

Meanwhile in Magura, two other unsuccessful SSC examinees also allegedly took their lives as they could not accept their results in the exams, UNB adds.

The deceased were -- Arifa Begum, 17, daughter of Mohon Mandal of Sreepur upazila, and Hridoy Biswas, 16, son of Kumaresh Biswas of the sadar upazila.

The body of Arifa, a student of Dariapur High School, was found hanging from a tree branch after the publication of the SSC results yesterday, said Rezaul Islam, officer-in-charge of Sreepur Police Station.

In another incident, Hridoy killed himself the same way as he could not pass the exam, said police.
