3 sisters, family still insecure

Stalkers on bail continue threatening them in Mymensingh

Three sisters and their family members are passing their days amid fear in Gouripur upazila under the district as the alleged stalkers have continued threatening them to withdraw the case filed for harassment and torture.

The alleged stalkers -- Delwar Hossain, 25, of Hatior village, a neighbour of the girls; and Abdul Aziz, 28, of neighbouring Poltipara village in Gouripur are on bail.

They are accused in a case filed by the girls' father with Gouripur Police Station on December 5.

The father also filed a general diary on Saturday evening, alleging threats by the two accused and their family members.

Amid harassment and threat allegedly by Delwar, two sisters – an HSC examinee and an eighth grader, are staying at home while another sister, an SSC examinee, has been shifted to her relative's house in Gouripur for her coaching classes, said the father.

“After getting bail, Delwar and Aziz are staying in the area. Delwar and his family members are giving death threats to us if we do not withdraw the case,” he said.

“Delwar had been disturbing my SSC candidate daughter for long. As she rejected his marriage proposal, he created nuisance, forcing her to stop attending school three months ago. Delwar's relative Sahanati UP Chairman Abdul Mannan is backing him.

“On November 25 last year, when she was returning home from a coaching centre, Delwar and Aziz waylaid her with sharp weapons and forcibly took her to Sahaganj area from where locals came to her rescue, said the father.

“I shifted her to a relative's house. My two other daughters cannot attend their classes in fear. Now I have to escort my six-year-old boy and four and a half year old girl who study at a local madrasa,” said the hapless father, expressing concern about his daughters' education and security of the family.

His HSC examinee daughter said, “Due to fear of attack by eve-teasers, we cannot attend our classes. They even disturb us at home, by playing songs with loudspeakers and passing bad comments.”

Contacted, Delwar Ahmed, officer in charge of the police station, said they are taking necessary steps.

Accused Delwar's father Tara Mia said the allegations against them are false while the UP chairman said he did not favour Delwar although the latter is his relative.
