3 more bodies recovered in Barisal launch capsize

Bodies of three more people who were missing after a trawler capsized in Sandhya river in Banaripara upazila of Barisal two days ago were recovered today.

With the recovery, the death toll from the incident rose to 26, our Barisal correspondent reports quoting Ziaul Ahsan, officer-in-charge of Banaripara Police Station.

The deceased were identified as Momtaj, 35, Alpona, 25, and Didan, 8.

Fire service officials and police said that 10 more bodies were recovered yesterday, a day after ML Oishi, a launch, capsized in the river, raising the death toll to 24.

Eight of the 10 victims are: Safwan, 3, Riad, 6, Rabbi, 9, Maisha, 1, Mafiya, 4, Hamida, 40, Ruhul Amin, a member of Barisal fire service, and Khukumoni, 40. The identities of the two others were unknown yesterday.

Today, the two bodies were identified as Bellal and Majid, police said.

OC Ziaul Ahsan said that Bellal was a victim of another small boat that also overturned in the same river on Wednesday.

The authorities recovered the launch around 8:30am yesterday and found bodies of four children inside while six more bodies were found floating.

The district administration yesterday called off the search for missing passengers.
