Three people were killed and two injured as a CNG-run auto-rickshaw was crushed under a trailer (used to carry containers) in Chittagong city this morning.

The identities of the deceased could not be known immediately, our senior staff correspondent of Chittagong reports.

The accident took place around 10:00am on Port Connecting Road (PCR) near Nimtala when the trailer driver lost control and fell on the three-wheeler, said Moinul Islam, officer-in-charge of Bandar Police Station.

Two of the victims died on the spot while the other was pronounced dead at Chittagong Medical College and Hospital (CMCH), said Sub-inspector Md Jahir, in-charge of CMCH Police Outpost.

“The accident might have occurred due to a pothole on the road,” OC Moinul speculated.

A team of fire service rescued the injured and towed the vehicles.
